What is the MPEA?
The Meridian Police Employee Association (MPEA) is a non-profit (501c3) organization that was reestablished in the Spring of 2011 as a strong, professional, and community-oriented organization focused on helping those in need here in Meridian, as well as throughout the Treasure Valley and the State of Idaho.
The MPEA is a way for sworn and professional staff members of the Meridian Police Department to get to know the citizens of Meridian on a more personal level, outside of the uniform; and to also give back to those who are not as fortunate as us. The MPEA focuses on improving the general welfare of the citizens of Meridian, as well as engages in fraternal, educational, charitable, economic, social, and other types of activities which further the interests of this organization and its membership both directly and indirectly. In addition, the MPEA provides assistance - financial, moral, or otherwise - to sworn and professional personnel here at the Meridian Police Department, as well as first responders throughout the state and country.
In 2012, the MPEA established the Injured and Fallen Officer Fund (IFOF) to provide assistance to first responders and their families in times of need and in times of loss. To date, the IFOF has donated over $55,000 to first responders and/or their immediate families and has been able to maintain a running balance of over $30,0000 thanks to numerous and generous donations from local citizens and businesses, as well as through community fundraisers like the Annual Golf Tournament.
In 2013, the MPEA established the Scholarship program which focuses on providing local students with reside, work, or attend school in the City of Meridian with an opportunity to obtain financial assistance to attend an accredited college or vocational school and fulfill their dreams. Each year, the MPEA awards up to two (2) $750 scholarships for MPEA members’ children and three (3) $500 scholarships to local outstanding citizens thanks to local contributors helping us to help our future leaders and work force.
The Future of the MPEA
The Meridian Police Employee Association is continuing to do its part and find additional partners so that we can make a BIGGER impact in and around Meridian and continue to assist first responders however possible.
